Driving the Transition Toward More Sustainable Rubber Compounds

One of the pillars of HEXPOL’s development strategy is promoting the transition toward increasingly sustainable rubber compounds, becoming the trusted partner for customers aiming to reduce their emissions. A pioneer in the sector, HEXPOL is able to provide Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) data for all compounds produced in Europe, using an internal calculation method certified by TÜV.

Available data show that over 85% of emissions associated with compound production typically come from raw materials, while transport and mixing activities have only a minor impact. Therefore, the main path to reducing emissions is replacing fossil-based raw materials with renewable alternatives of biological, circular, or bio-circular origin.

This is the idea behind HEXGREEN®, a range of customized rubber compounds incorporating at least 10% sustainable raw materials.

Together with customers, HEXPOL selects new alternatives to ensure compliance with required performance standards. Circular and recycled raw materials are particularly effective, as they prevent landfill disposal and ensure reliable quality.

Concrete examples include devulcanized rubber from post-industrial waste and pyrolysis products derived from end-of-life tires (ELTs).

HEXPOL’s technical team can adapt existing recipes or develop new HEXGREEN® compounds from scratch, offering the usual high quality with a lower carbon footprint.
